Women’s Lacrosse Stuns No. 21/22 Harvard in Senior Day Upset

    April 14, 2025 /

Trailing by one point with under 20 seconds left, No. 21/22 Harvard launched one final attack, desperate to even the score. But as the clock wound down, the Red’s defense tightened, and junior goalkeeper Mackenzie Clark rose to the moment, making a game-saving stop that sent Schoellkopf Field into a frenzy.  The final whistle blew, and in an instant, the Red’s bench emptied. Players stormed the field, arms raised, as a wave of cheers poured from the stands. It was a fitting end to a game that had everything. For Senior Day, the Red (9-4, 3-2 Ivy) delivered its most emotional and hard-fought performance of the season, stunning Harvard (7-5,…

A Deep Dive into Slope Day Artists’ Impact

    April 14, 2025 /

Come one, come all to witness this year’s Slope Day artists: headliner Kehlani and special guest Louis the Child! For most Cornellians, Slope Day is a time of celebration, when the dreary cold and academic stress melt away, giving rise to a vibrant renewal of springtime energy. It’s a day when the campus blooms with music, excitement and collective school pride that buzzes through the crowd. This year is no different. So, consider this your guide — an introduction to the cultural significance and artistic impact that each of our incoming performers bring to the hill. Kehlani Ashley Parrish was born on April 24, 1995, in Oakland, California. Her early…

You’ve Got Chemistry With Your Valentine’s Day Date: The Science of Falling in Love

    March 7, 2025 /

Picture this: it’s a cold February day in Ithaca, and you’re sitting in a cafe sipping a steaming drink over your homework. By chance, you look up from your problem set and meet the gaze of a cute stranger across the room. Your heart starts beating fast and you experience that all-too-familiar feeling of butterflies in your stomach. As you debate whether to approach this person, your nucleus accumbens — commonly known as the brain’s “reward center” — starts releasing dopamine, the neurotransmitter associated with pleasurable experiences like getting a good grade or eating delicious food, according to Prof. Alex Ophir, psychology.  At the same time, the hormones oxytocin —…

Swiping Left: Valentine’s Day for the Cynics

    March 5, 2025 /

Just like that, we’re approaching another Valentine’s Day. Another day of hefty and cringey paragraphs on Instagram, expensive dinners full of awkward, lovey-dovey small talk and expensive (allegedly “marked-down”) chocolates, flowers and Hallmark cards. The holiday of overconsumption and exploitative consumerism has arrived. And, paradoxically, I’m excited. Every year, my feelings about Valentine’s Day fluctuate, but my general attitude remains the same: it’s the same dose of insincere and superficial, year after year. This time around, I’m feeling relatively calm — though ask me again after seeing the explosion of newly formed (possible cringe) Cornell couples parading their love around campus, and I’ll probably have a different answer (and a…

Pole Posse Honors Love With Spins and Splits at Annual Valentine’s Day Showcase

    March 2, 2025 /

Student pole dancers hung from their feet and performed the splits mid-air in Willard Straight Hall to a nearly full audience on Sunday at Pole Posse’s annual Valentine’s Day Showcase, named “Love at First Spin.” Pole Posse teaches students pole dancing in free weekly lessons. They also hold performances twice a semester, with the proceeds often going towards supporting marginalized groups, such as Women for Women International’s Winter Relief for Palestine in the past. During the showcase, each dancer wore a distinct costume and danced to a song that showcased their individuality.  “I loved how each dance had a unique theme that really expressed each performer’s personality. Especially the dance…

A Day In The Life: Eating Out Under $15 As A Cornell Student

    February 21, 2025 /

Eating on a college budget can be difficult. Eating out is expensive, but cooking can take up time that few of us have between classes and club commitments. Often, the only available options are unhealthy or just downright inedible. I am occasionally guilty of eating pricey takeout to avoid cooking because of sheer laziness. Still, I usually find myself in a situation where I need to eat on a budget but don’t have time to run home and cook or am too busy to meal prep.  This conundrum leaves me wondering if it’s even realistic to eat out affordably as a college student in Ithaca. Thus, I posed a challenge…

Offense Goes Dry as Women’s Hockey Ties Yale on Senior Day

    February 21, 2025 /

After taking home the program’s seventh ECAC regular season championship the night before in a 6-2 win over Brown, No. 4 women’s hockey struggled to find the back of the net in a 1-1 tie with Yale. The Red tallied an impressive 37 shots on goal, but committed four penalties in the contest. Eventually, the Bulldog power play broke through, forcing the Red to settle for a tie and spoiling Cornell’s senior day celebrations. In honor of their final regular season game, head coach Doug Derraugh ’91 started five seniors alongside sophomore goaltender Annelies Bergmann, and ten of the 11 rostered seniors dressed for their final regular season contest.  With…
