Makenna Chokelal’s Journey From Medical Retirement to Cheering on Women’s Hockey, Advocating for Athlete Mental Health
At midnight on Feb. 17, 2024, Makenna Chokelal ’25 walked in the icy cold to greet the women’s hockey team with confetti poppers and a congratulatory sign after its victory over then No. 15 Yale to claim the Ivy League title. On Jan. 25, 2025, Chokelal made the same frigid walk to the bus to congratulate the team on its victory against Harvard. This time, her sign read “It’s two easy! Congrats champ!” referring to the team’s back-to-back titles. MULTIMEDIA | A Peek Into Anabel’s Grocery
MULTIMEDIA | Anabel’s Grocery, a student-run nonprofit located in Anabel Taylor Hall, is dedicated to providing affordable, fresh groceries sourced locally to the Cornell community. The store offers subsidized prices to students and aims to address food insecurity on campus. Opened in 2017, Anabel’s Grocery was born out of a response to a 2015 Cornell Perceptions of Undergraduate Life and Student Experiences survey in which 22 percent of students reported skipping meals or lacking enough food due to financial constraints.
