PREVIEW: Men’s Lacrosse Prepares to Host Ivy League Tournament, Face Yale in Semifinal Round

    May 2, 2025 /

Last year, the Red saw its postseason cut short in the first game of the Ivy League Tournament. This year, it enters the semifinal not only as first in the Ivy League, but first in the country. With its victory over Dartmouth last weekend, the Red earned the status of first seed and host of the conference tournament. Play kicks off Friday, when Cornell faces No. 4 Yale in the first semifinal, a match which will be followed by the second semifinal between No. 2 Princeton and No. 3 Harvard. “Every team’s different year after year, but within the league, I think all these teams are pretty well understood,” said…

PREVIEW: Last Game of the Regular Season Brings Dartmouth to Schoellkopf for No.1 Men’s Lacrosse Senior Day

    April 25, 2025 /

Riding the high of a definitive victory against No. 12 Harvard, men’s lacrosse comes home for its final match of the regular season. It won’t be an easy one – Dartmouth boasts one of the nation’s best goalkeepers and is coming off a 13-9 win against Brown. The team will celebrate 16 seniors, including attackmen CJ Kirst and Michael Long, as well as midfielders Hugh Kelleher, Andrew Dalton, and Ryan Sheehan, all of whom earned 10 or more points so far this season. Kirst alone has tallied 59 goals, accounting for over a fourth of the team’s total output. On the defensive end, senior goalkeeper Wyatt Knust has made a…

PREVIEW: No. 1 Men’s Lacrosse to Face No. 10 Harvard for Final Top-10 Matchup of the Season

    April 18, 2025 /

With just two games left in the regular season, men’s lacrosse remains at the top of the polls. Though it’s looking good for the Red’s postseason prospects, there’s no time to sit back and relax. This Saturday, Cornell (10-1, 4-0 Ivy) travels to Cambridge, Massachusetts to play No. 10 Harvard (9-2, 3-1 Ivy), a powerhouse in its own right. The Crimson’s only loss in the Ivy League this season came against No. 2 Princeton on March 22, and since then Harvard has taken four straight games, all by a margin of at least five goals. The offensive trio of Sam King, Jack Speidell and Teddy Malone have all contributed over…

PREVIEW: Men’s Lacrosse Gears Up to Host Penn State, First Top-Ten Opponent of the Season, After Ivy League Awards Earned by Kirst, Knust

    March 8, 2025 /

Cornell headed into its 2024 match with Penn State looking to prove a point against the Nittany Lions, who had snagged a low-scoring win the year before. Instead, Penn State took a 20-9 victory over the Red, extending Cornell’s drought in the series to three consecutive losses. An offensive explosion from Penn State in the first half put them up 11-4 before halftime, and Cornell couldn’t make a comeback. In its first top-10 matchup of the 2025 season, No. 3 Cornell (4-0) is seeking to make a mark on the national stage — and a decisive conclusion against No. 9/8 Penn State (4-1) could substantiate the Red’s claim to a…

PREVIEW: Men’s Lacrosse Prepares For Home Opener Against Denver

    February 21, 2025 /

Following a dominant display over Lehigh in its season opener on Saturday, Feb. 15, men’s lacrosse heads home for their first match at Schoellkopf Field. It may feel like déjà vu – Cornell (1-0) is back where it was on Feb. 24, 2024, fresh off a win against Lehigh (0-3) and preparing to take the field against Denver (2-1). Last season, this setup didn’t result favorably for the Red, as the Pioneers took a narrow 17-16 victory thanks to an offensive surge in the final quarter. Denver went on to a long NCAA run to the National Semifinals, where they fell to Notre Dame in a decisive 13-6 tally. Cornell,…
